Source A
On March 14, 1967, the NS(Amendment) Bill was passed in Parliament. Males aged 18 would be conscripted to create a new fighting force to be reckoned with. From hawkers to university-aged students, all suddenly faced the prospect that they would be called yo do their duty for their country, As former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew once said: "If we took a poll, we would never have had national service, I simply decided, 'Introduce it'. It was necessary."

Source B
A speech by Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong at the 35 Years of National Service Commemoration Dinner 2002

National Service was also aimed at nation building. It would develop national consciousness and foster social cohesion, Singaporeans of all strata of society would train shoulder to shoulder in the rain and hot sun, run up hills together, and learn to fight as a team in jungles and built-up areas. Their common experience in National Service would bond them, and shape the Singapore identity and character. The Government enlisted the support of leaders of chambers of commerce, clan associations, and community and grassroots organisations. They helped the Government to persuade the people of the necessity and benefits of National Service.

Source C
The extract discusses the role of the Singapore Armed Forces in the May 1969 riots.

The discipline of the SAF had been tested, and it had held. The unity of this multi-racial force had been seriously tested by the racial riots. Young Singaporean Chinese NSmen had not run amok with their automatic rifles through Malay areas, nor Malay soldiers through Chinese areas. Malay and Chinese soldiers did not turn their weapons against each other, despite rumors and reports of civilian casualties in Malay and Chinese communities.

then the questions:

a) Study Source A. What does Source A tell you about the people's attitude towards National Service? (5M)
b) Study Sources B and C. In what way are the sources similar? (6M)
c) Study Source D. How useful is Source D as evidence to show that Singapore would be able to handle its security? (6M)
d) Study ALL Sources. To what extent do the sources show that the implementation of National Service was a wise choice made by the Singapore government? Explain your answer. (8M)

LOOK! killer la~
part a i wrote that the people were not to keen to the idea and plus quoting and explanation.
part b i wrote multi racial singapore identity plus racial harmony. bleahs. rachel say she wrote about unity because of the NS. ><
part c i dunno la. i anyhow write. i wrote useful to certain extent and not useful to a certain extent. useful cos they seems happy protecting the country. (total crap) not useful cos it is just a photograph, cannot prove it fully (total crap again) >.<
then part D, i say source A doesn't really show. while the others show. (wrong right >.<)

then guess what. i only had like 30 mins for BOTH my structured essay questions.
DIE RIGHT. cos i forgot everything. then i slacked for the first 45 mins.
so i chiong like siao. i completed both questions, but only one was fully done.

then got this passage she will read out.

as in stand there see our confused face keep smiling.
then ended alrdy did paper 2.

but i think i still die.
then after that was paper 1, compo.
everyone chose question 1, reply email
only a few of us chose qns 3.
then i wrote as 3rd person perspective when i was supposed to write as first or second person perspective :/
